These are some of the seedlings that have grown from the germinating seeds that I extracted from mature Deodar cedar cones just a few weeks ago. It looks like every seed that was planted has come up. I'm keeping them slightly on the dry side to try to minimise the possibility of "damping off" which is caused by a fungal disease and once infected would cause the death of probably all seedlings in a few days. At the moment they look strong and vigourous. So fingers crossed

what is grow bonsai 18/12/2018 01:04:21
I hope that it will grow beautifully by time. Cedrus Deodara is not famous here in our country that is why whenever I see them, I get so happy. I really like that plant even though it is not attractive when it is still a seed. My mom loves planting, too. Unfortunately, one of the disadvantages of plants is that, it is quite risky for mosquitoes. Recently, I had dengue because of mosquito bites. My mom was bit disappointed, but I said that she continue planting because that what she wants.

It’s now been 10 years - can you update us on your deodar cedar trees! Pictures or any news. I am excited to hear how they have grown and I hope that you have planted them somewhere!

I tried harvesting a cone last fall, cold stratified over winter, then tried to germinate this spring. None germinated! I used treated water and not distilled/rainwater. I found another cone on the ground yesterday and will attempt to harvest and germinate again with distilled/rainwater, but it is the beginning of summer here and not sure if the cone is mature enough. We shall see!

See if you can find seeds lying on the ground under the tree. No need to do anything to them, just stick the small point into your growing media an keep it moist. Iv’e seen them germinate lying on the ground and their root bending towards the soil, seeking the soil. They are amazing. 5/8/2022 17:23:05
